“I didn’t know the man”: Robin Wright breaks silence on ‘House of Cards’ co-star Kevin Spacey

"I didn’t know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is.”

Robin Wright has broken her silence on working with Kevin Spacey, after her House of Cards co-star was accused of a string of historic sexual assaults.

Wright will take centre stage in the show’s final season, after Spacey’s departure was confirmed late last year.

Spacey was initially accused of sexually assaulting actor Anthony Rapp, before a string of other men subsequently came forward.

Now, Wright has responded for the first time – and stressed that she wasn’t aware of Spacey’s off-screen behaviour.

“We were co-workers, really. We never socialised out of work — [it was a] respectful, professional relationship,” she stated in an interview with NBC’s Today Show.

“Kevin and I knew each other between action and cut, and between set-ups, where we would giggle. I didn’t really — I didn’t know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is.”

Although Wright admits that the cast and crew were “saddened” by the allegations, they were insistent on soldiering on.

“We forged ahead,” she said.

“We were so thankful we were able to complete the series as planned.”

When asked if Netflix made the right choice in sacking Spacey, Wright responded: “I don’t know how to comment on that.

“But I think at the time, the shock was so intense all over the nation for many reasons, many stories, many people, I think that everybody felt that it was respectful to back off.”

The first trailer for the show’s sixth season was released in March, and sees Wright taking centre stage after taking over from Frank Underwood (Spacey) as US President.

In the clip, we see a tracking shot travelling through the busy annals of the White House before eventually stopping in the Oval Office, where Claire Underwood is now the President of the United States.

“We’re just getting started”, she remarks in the clip.

It has also been reported that there could be several House Of Cards spin-offs following the show’s final season.
