Iggy Azalea reveals she has completed six songs for new album

Australian rapper previously scrapped a whole album worth of music

Iggy Azalea has revealed that she has finished work on six songs that will feature on her next album.

Azalea recently revealed that she scrapped a whole album worth of material as she works on the follow up to 2014 debut ‘The New Classic’. The album helped establish Azalea as an artist and featured the single ‘Fancy’, featuring Charli XCX.

Speaking to fans on Twitter today (August 9), Azalea told her followers that she is currently in the studio and hopes to release a new single next year. Responding to fan questions, she went on to say that the album may be relatively short with just 10 songs likely to feature on the record and no deluxe edition planned. There will, however, be a documentary to accompany the release which is being filmed while it is being made.

Azalea’s studio time comes off the back of a run of unfortunate incidents so far in 2015. In June she pulled out of a performance at the Pittsburgh Pride following a campaign by LGBTQ activists. Azalea announced her decision to pull out of the festival following criticism from members of the LGBTQ community over controversial tweets from her past.

The chart-topping rapper was set to perform at the event on June 13. However, Pittsburgh City Council president Bruce Kraus joined the protests and a number of artists set to perform at the event also cancelled their performances in protest over the choice of headliner.

She also cancelled her ‘The Great Escape Tour citing a “creative change of heart”.

Meanwhile, a petition to strip the Australian rapper of her Billboard Award also hit 20,000 signatures in May, following claims that her song ‘Fancy’ was ineligible.
