Is there a hidden ‘Doctor Who’ connection in ‘Avengers: Endgame’?

Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey...

It seems that Doctor Who might have a few fans on the Marvel team, after eagle-eyed fans noticed a subtle connection to the iconic TV show in Avengers: Endgame.

When Avengers: Infinity War hit cinemas last year, fans were quick to note the significance of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man muttering “I don’t wanna go” as he felt the wrath of Thanos’ snap. It just so happens to be the same line that David Tennant utters before he regenerates into the Eleventh doctor.

While that line was improvised by Tom Holland, it was enough for Who fans to suggest that the newcomer might be a fan of the Whoniverse.

And now, it appears that Endgame has the smallest of Who connections too.

Rather fittingly, the moment comes as the Avengers are discussing their plan to travel back in time and retrieve older versions of the Infinity stones to undo Thanos’ destruction.

The chat sees them discussing depictions of time travel in popular culture – namely Bill and Ted and Back To The Future.

There’s no mention of Doctor Who, but it’s interesting to note that their mission is called Time Heist – which just so happens to be the name of a Doctor Who episode starring Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor.

While it’s unclear whether Endgame screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely included the name as a clever nod, Radio Times notes that the phrase Time Heist is still heavily linked to Doctor Who on Google – so we definitely can’t rule out the connection.

Meanwhile, some fans are convinced that Endgame includes a sneaky hint about the future of the MCU.
