Jake Gyllenhaal could be about to replace Matt Damon as the new hero of the Bourne film series.
Writer and director Tony Gilroy is reportedly considering a number of promising young actors to star in his forthcoming Bourne Legacy film, with Prince Of Persia star Gyllenhaal a strong contender.
The fourth film in the series will be the first not to feature Matt Damon as the lead. Damon said he wouldn’t make another film without Paul Greengrass, who announced in November that he would not return as director.
As well as Gyllenhaal, Variety reports that Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch and Kellan Lutz could be in contention. Josh Hartnett, Paul Dano, Michael Fassbender and Alex Pettyfer are also thought to be on the longlist.
The new film will deal with the fall-out from the end of 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, while pushing a new hero to the forefront of the narrative.
Universal have set the release date for The Bourne Legacy as August 3 next year.
