James Cameron adapting ‘Cirque du Soleil’ as 3D film

'Avatar' director will turn his hand to adapting Las Vegas show

James Cameron is planning to convert Las Vegas musical Cirque du Soleil to a 3D movie.

The Avatar director is pairing up with the director of Shrek, Andrew Adamson, to adapt the lauded performance show.

Adamson will write the movie, with it being executive-produced by Cameron, reports Deadline.com.

Cameron said: “The images we’ve been shooting are stunning, and I know Andrew Adamson will weave them into a transporting, dreamlike narrative which will mesmerise audiences of all ages around the world.”

Adamson added: “Cirque du Soleil has always inspired me with their window into the balance between beauty and danger; art and technology; gravity and unbelievable physical ability. Bringing that to the screen in 3D is a perfect synergy between an art form and a medium.”

There’s no word as yet regarding a release date.
