Filming started on the long awaited sequel back in May

Jennifer Connelly is in talks to appear in the forthcoming Top Gun 2 movie.

The A Beautiful Mind actress is expected to play the movie’s female lead, a single mother who runs a local bar near the Navy base, according to Deadline.

Cruise is reprising his role as hot shot Navy pilot Maverick in the sequel to the 1986 movie that is being directed by Joseph Kosinski. Kosinski directed Cruise in the sci-fi thriller Oblivion.

The star, who is due to appear in the forthcoming Mission: Impossible – Fallout, posted a picture of the original film with the famous line: “FEEL THE NEED”, along with a caption saying Day 1, suggesting the first day of shooting has started.

The first film was directed by the late Tony Scott, who died in 2012.
