John Carpenter slams Rob Zombie as ‘lying piece of shit’

The horror legend is not a fan of his Halloween remake

Horror movie legend John Carpenter has slammed Rob Zombie as a ‘lying piece of shit’, admitting that he’s not a fan of his remake of Halloween.

The heavy metal hero and White Zombie frontman remade Carpenter’s ’70s horror classic Halloween in 2007, dividing opinion among critics and movie fans.

Now, in a video recently resurfaced by Entertainment Weekly, the movie veteran claims that Zombie not only ‘lied about him’, but tarnished the legacy of the franchise.

“He said I was very cold to him when he told me he was going to make it,” Carpenter tells the New York Film Academy. “Nothing could be further from the truth. I said, ‘Make it your own movie, man. This is yours now. Don’t worry about me.’ I was incredibly supportive. Why that piece of shit lied, I don’t know.”

Speaking of Zombie’s take on the movie’s main cult character, Carpenter added: “I thought he took away the mystique of the story by explaining too much about [Michael Myers]. I don’t care about that. He’s supposed to be a force of nature, he’s supposed to be almost supernatural, and he was too big.”

Zombie’s remake of Halloween went on to gross $58,000 at the US box office.

He recently made headlines after speaking out in defence of Japanese rock sensation BABYMETAL – slamming critics of the band as ‘haters’ and ‘grumpy old fucks’.

Rob Zombie is set to headline London’s O2 Forum in Kentish Town on 17 October.
