Justin Bieber film director Jon Chu signs on for ‘G.I. Joe 2’

Chu will work on a script put together by 'Zombieland' team

Jon Chu has reportedly been chosen by Paramount to direct G.I. Joe 2.

Chu previously directed Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D. He will take over from Stephen Sommers, who was behind the camera for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra in 2009.

Slashfilm.com reports that Chu will be working from a script written by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Chu said: “The one thing I felt was missing from the last Joe movie was the power of the punch. You want Joe to be tough. They are fun, but they are tough. I feel that you don’t want to make Joe too kids.”

He added: “Joe has history… for me, it is about the fun stuff like Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, and all the gadgets. All of that stuff. But it has heart.”

Now that Chu is confirmed in the role, Paramount are moving ahead with casting for the film.
