Game of Thrones star Kit Harington has hit out at critics of the show following the premiere of its new season.
The actor portrays Jon Snow in the hit HBO fantasy series, which returned for its eighth and final season on Sunday (April 14). Responding to negative verdicts of the ‘Winterfell’ episode, he explained how he remains “defiant” about the show.
“I don’t mean to sound mean about critics here – but whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their [negative] judgment on it, in my head they can go fuck themselves,” Harington told Esquire.
Recalling “how much work was put into [the new season]” to create a satisfying ending for fans, he added: “I know how much people cared about this. I know how much pressure people put on themselves and I know how many sleepless nights working or otherwise people had on this show.
“Because they cared about it so much. Because they cared about the characters. Because they cared about the story. Because they cared about not letting people down.”
The actor went on to say how he doesn’t “give a fuck” if anyone is dissatisfied “because everyone tried their hardest” on set.
“That’s how I feel. In the end, no one’s bigger fans of the show than we are, and we’re kind of doing it for ourselves,” he added. “That’s all we could do, really. And I was just happy we got to the end.”
Meanwhile, Chinese GoT fans have expressed their anger at the season premiere being censored in their country. Elsewhere, the staggering numbers of what went into making the new season have been shared.
