Bruno Mars responds to Kanye West’s ‘prettiest motherfucker’ diss

Rapper appeared to disapprove when Mars came home with two trophies at the 2013 MTV VMAs.

Bruno Mars has responded to Kanye West’s apparent disapproval over the VMAs he won in 2013.

Mars won two prizes at the MTV ceremony in 2013. He first collected the Best Choreography gong for ‘Treasure’, followed by the Best Male Video Prize for ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’.

Kanye West shared his thoughts on Mars’ awards success at a subsequent gig in New York. “I’m sitting there, I’m watching Drake perform, I see Bruno Mars perform,” West recalled. “And then they start giving out awards and shit, and Bruno Mars won all the motherfucking awards and shit!”

He continued: “And I was thinking about what Rick Rubin told me, because I don’t give a fuck about no TV show. But what I care about is if you’re an artist and you work hard as fuck and the streets say that you deserve that shit. Can’t no motherfucking networks try to gas everybody up so they can sell some product with the prettiest motherfucker out!”

Asked about West’s comments by Rolling Stone, Mars replied: “I won one award! But he was right about the pretty part. It’s Kanye – bottom line, at the end of the day, we need Kanye. But what he said wasn’t a sting. You can come at me all you want – I’ve set myself up for that. But I am my own biggest critic. Whatever anyone says to me, they don’t know shit.”

Mars added: “But me and him, we’re cool. He called me and apologised. Kanye loves me, man. You know that. Who doesn’t? I’m Bruno Mars!”

Bruno Mars releases new album ’24K Magic’ on November 18. Watch the video for the title track here.

Skrillex recently confirmed that he has been working on new material with the singer-songwriter.

“I’m not going to give specifics of what it sounds like, but what we’re doing is so fucking different, awesome and next level and sounds like nothing else that’s happened before,” he said.
