The 1975 have renewed their record deal with Dirty Hit

"They are Dirty Hit"

The 1975 have renewed their record deal with Dirty Hit, and are now set to make another three albums with the celebrated label.

Dirty Hit – which is also home to Wolf Alice, Pale Waves, Marika Hackman, The Japanese House, No Rome and Benjamin Francis Leftwich – have supported The 1975 since their debut EP ‘Facedown’ in 2012. Now after three Number One albums, label boss Jamie Oborne has revealed that they’ll be with them for another three at least.

“The 1975 extended their deal with Dirty Hit, The 1975 are with Dirty Hit for a long time,” Oborne told Music Week. “They are Dirty Hit, so of course they’d extend. The 1975 had a three-album deal and they’ve extended it for another three albums, which is amazing. Myself and the boys, we were so happy.”

For releasing music by The 1975, Dirty Hit have teamed up with Polydor – but insist that they remain an independent label.

“People seem to think that Dirty Hit is a Universal label and it is absolutely not, it’s 100% independent,” Oborne continued. “I have a joint venture with Interscope and Polydor on The 1975, because at the time it would have been a pointless, prideful decision to not partner with people who had the resources to help us move forward.”

Last year, the band released the acclaimed ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships‘, which has sold 95,405 copies to date. In 2019, they’ll release the follow-up ‘Notes On A Conditional Form‘ before they headline Reading & Leeds Festival 2019.

Oborne set up Dirty Hit in 2009 with Brian Smith and former England footballer Ugo Ehiogu – who died in 2017. Ehiogu was an original investor, and would remain a silent partner.
