A1 are playing down their chart battle with BACKSTREET BOYS this week as they release ‘SAME OLD BRAND NEW YOU’ at the same time as the US boyband unleash comeback single ‘SHAPE OF MY HEART’ on the British public.
Speaking last night to NME.COM, A1’s Christian Ingerbrigtsen seemed optimistic at his band’s prospects and played down any rivalry between themselves and the Boys. He said: “Well, we’ve shipped more copies than the Backstreet Boys, and apparently Woolworths have put us at Number One. We’ve got our fingers crossed,” he explained. When asked if he had a message for the Backstreet Boys, Christian smiled and said, simply, “They’re very talented. Good luck to them.”
On the subject of ‘Same Old Brand New You’ following ‘Take On Me’ to Number One, Ben Adams from the band commented: “I don’t know, you just really can never say. I mean who else is out – Artful Dodger, that should be alright. And Girl Thing. Yeah, we’re really worried about that one.”
A1 were talking to NME.COM after last night’s show at London’s Hammersmith Apollo – tonight (6 November) their tour takes them to Leicester.
