The late singer is not forgotten at the ceremony in Los Angeles...

AALIYAH has been honoured with two posthumous AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS.

The late singer, who was killed in a plane crash last August, was named Favourite Female Soul Artist at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles last night (January 9). Aaliyah’s eponymous album won the award for Best Soul Album, and rapper Ginuwine accepted the gong before telling the audience to stand up as a mark of respect.

Alicia Keys earned five nominations, more than anyone else. She walked away with two awards on the night – Favourite New Pop Artist and Favourite New Soul Artist.

Destiny’s Child beat *N Sync to win favourite pop album for ‘Survivor’. The girl group also won the award for Favourite Soul Group. Michael Jackson collected an Artist of the Century award.

Other winners on the night included Lenny Kravitz (Male Artist), Janet Jackson (Female Artist), *N Sync (Band, Duo or Group), Limp Bizkit (Alternative Artist) and Nelly (Rap/Hip-Hop artist).

Nelly appeared at the awards and urged fans to dress in patriotic clothes, in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the US on September 11. The rapper wore a red, white and blue sweatsuit and said: “It’s my new clothing line. If black kids want to pick it up, I would much appreciate it.”
