The family of the late R&B singer Aaliyah have said that they are not supporting the release of a new posthumous album.
Earlier this week, Drake unveiled a new posthumous duet with Aaliyah, which is titled ‘Enough Said’, with plans for more material. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to listen to the track. The track, which has been produced by Noah ’40’ Shebib, features a previously unreleased vocal hook from the singer, who died on August 25, 2001 in a plane crash.
Aaliyah’s family have now stated that they are not involved with any forthcoming releases. Her brother Rashad Haughton has said – via The Guardian: “There is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family.”
Drake has previously said that he would like to work with Aaliyah’s unreleased material, but this has drawn some criticism from the singer’s producer Timbaland, who has said that both he and Missy Elliott should be involved in anything to do with Aaliyah’s unreleased work.
Drake has now reportedly contacted Timbaland over the album, and he is apparently set to produce two songs, with Shebib taking on the duties for the rest of the LP.
Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born in New York in 1979 and raised in Detroit. She released her debut album, the R Kelly-produced ‘Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number’, in 1994.
It was followed in 1996 by ‘One In A Million’ and her self-titled third album, which was released a month before her death in 2001 and has since sold over 13 million copies.
