Rapper turned actor says he is the man to replace Daniel Craig as 007
A$AP Rocky has said that he would like to become the first ever black actor to play James Bond.
The rapper, who is moving into the world of acting and will appear in new film Dope out later this summer, spoke to Esquire about his ambitions and why he thinks he is the right man to follow Daniel Craig in playing 007.
“We need a black James Bond,” he said. “I’d get the job done and I’ll look better than any other Bond that has ever lived. All I need is a six-pack.”
Admitting that his confidence in his own looks can be viewed as a negative, Rocky continued: “I’m too conceited. We don’t need the whole world to be full of themselves but it works for me. No one else looks like this. That’s what makes me so special.”
His fighting skills, essential to any big-screen action hero, are also in contention. “I’d been in a group fight,” he says of his worst ever injury. “This kid pulled out a gun and was hitting people with the butt of it. My worst injury was falling off my bike when I was eight. I chipped a tooth.”
Earlier this year A$AP Rocky released new album ‘A.L.L.A’. The record is the follow-up to 2013 debut ‘Long.Live.ASAP’. Guests on the album include Miguel and Rod Stewart. Kanye West appears on ‘Jukebox Joints’ while MIA features alongside Future on the song ‘Fine Whine’.
Speaking to NME recently, the hip-hop star and A$AP Mob leader stated that the record “doesn’t have any singles on it”. Rocky added, “I’ll do what the fuck I want. That’s the only way to do it. I’d be confused if I tried to fit in. I’m an innovator.”
Rocky also revealed to NME that he was inspired by The Beatles when recording the album. “It’s just so inspirational to go against the grain,” he said. “The Beatles were at the top of their careers and doing all that pop shit. Then they do some leftfield shit – and it worked. Those guys were geniuses.”
