Lionel Richie says he is going to collaborate with Adele

Mash-up video featuring the pair recently went viral online

Following a recent mash-up viral video featuring the pair, Lionel Richie has now revealed that a full-on collaboration between himself and Adele is “almost in the works”.

The viral video in question saw clips taken from Richie’s video for his hit ‘Hello’ and Adele’s video for her new single of the same name, with Adele appearing to put the phone down on Richie. Scroll below to watch that.

Responding to the video, Richie took to Instagram to post a screenshot from his video next to one from Adele’s, writing: “HELLO @adele is it me you’re looking for… #hello”.

Now, Richie has confirmed to E! News that there are plans for a collaboration: “We are going to be doing something together – that’s already almost in the work,” he said.

“I can almost say that we are talking, but right now she has a mission. Her mission is [to] get her record out and go on tour, so until she finishes that cycle, that won’t happen just yet. She is committed to that.”

Lionel also told E! that he initially thought Adele’s song was a cover of his hit: “Someone said to me, ‘Lionel, Adele did ‘Hello” and I said, ‘Retirement. I am done’… Then, all of a sudden I realized this is not ‘Hello.’ She just used ‘Hello.'”

“What it did was it blew everything to the ceiling. The conversation came up. If you say Adele and you say Lionel or Lionel and Adele… that’s the best pairing you could have!”

Adele’s album ’25’ was released in November and has since broken the Official UK Album Chart record for the fastest million-selling album ever. ’25’ went straight to Number One on November 27 with sales of 800,000 in its first week.
