Adele leads American Music Awards nominations with four nods

Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Rihanna and Katy Perry are close behind with three noms each

Adele has received the most nominations at this year’s American Music Awards, despite being a UK artist.

The nominations were announced today (October 11) in Los Angeles by Nicki Minaj and Pitbull. Adele has been given nods for Artist Of The Year, Favourite Female Artist, Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist and Favourite Album for ‘21’, which has sold 3.7 million copies in the US.

Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Katy Perry and Rihanna have all received three nominations for the awards, which will be held on November 20 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Swift, Gaga, Perry and Lil Wayne are all in the running for Artist Of The Year alongside Adele.

The nominees are chosen from chart data, but the winners will be picked through online votes from fans, reports AP.

Artists to receive two nominations include Pitbull and Nicki Minaj as well as Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown, LMFAO and Kanye West.

The 39th American Music Awards will air live in the US on ABC, Katy Perry and Pitbull are the first confirmed performers.
