Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry collapsed during a show with supergroup Hollywood Vampires earlier this month (Sunday, July 11), and now it’s been reported that the rocker was suffering from dehydration and exhaustion, according to Blabbermouth.
The Hollywood Vampires – which on the night included members Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper – were playing a gig at the Ford Amphitheater in Coney Island, New York when the incident occurred.
The exact nature of the problem, which reportedly meant Perry lost consciousness and collapsed backstage before later being transported to a nearby hospital, has still not been officially revealed.
Video footage from the gig showed the Aerosmith guitarist stumbling off the stage at the New York venue. Shortly after Cooper told fans at the gig that Perry had been “very sick” before the show, later tweeting that Perry was “stable” and “under the best care”.
“Joe Perry is stable and resting,” a representative for the group told Rolling Stone. “His brother Vampires and fans wish him a speedy recovery.”
Last week (July 14) Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler expressed his concern for Perry, writing on Twitter, “I love you @joeperry… Feel the millions of prayers coming your way… We all love you… Sending white light and all that I got your way.”
That was before he told Billboard, “It’s starting to scare me a little bit.”
Describing himself as “really concerned”, Tyler added, “I know they’re putting out nothing, but he’s recovering, he’s really good, he fainted, exhaustion. But I know my brother. He’s just about the only other guy that’s as passionate about his art as I am. He’s always asking me to do three, four [Aerosmith] shows in a row, and I can’t. I’ll blow my voice out. I know how to maintain my career, my health, and Joe’s passionate. I don’t think he knows how to. I think he’s out there and someone’s overbooking him.”
