Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler hijacks hardware store’s Tannoy system to sing karaoke on helium

Singer's trip to Home Depot store takes a surreal turn

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler recently orchestrated an impromptu karaoke session over the Tannoy system of a Californian branch of the Home Depot hardware store, according to staff.

Tyler, who checked into rehab for treatment for painkiller addiction in December, is said to have sung Aerosmith songs including ‘Dude (Looks Like A Lady)’ and ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’ over the loudspeaker system at the store. The singer is also said to have started inhaling helium and singing in a high-pitched voice during the impromptu hijacking.

Rolling Stone quotes a store worker as saying the incident definitely did happen, saying: “It’s true. It’s not phony.”

The incident follows an appearance by Tyler at a karaoke night at a Californian pub recently. Despite telling staff he would not be singing, Tyler took to the stage of the Tilted Kilt pub and blasted out a version of ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’, after two previous singers had been booed off while singing the track.

Last week, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry announced that the band were auditioning for a new singer, as Tyler was “out of the picture for about a year” while he has leg surgery.
