Alabama Shakes to play London comeback show in February 2015

The band will perform their first UK show since 2013 at Islington Assembly Hall

Alabama Shakes have announced their first UK gig since 2013.

The US group will play London’s Islington Assembly Hall on February 19, 2015.

Tickets for the 800-capacity show go on sale at 10am on Friday (December 12).

The band – fronted by Brittany Howard – released their debut album ‘Boys & Girls’ in April 2012 which charted at Number Three on the UK album charts.

In December 2013, the band said that they had almost finished recording its follow-up, however the group’s second album has still not been given a release date.

“We just have a better grasp on what we’re doing in the studio now,” drummer Steve Johnson said at the time. “As far as the songs go, I think a lot of people want to expect a ‘Boys & Girls Volume 2’ almost, more digging into Southern soul or something like that, and the songs that are coming out now, they’re different. I feel like we’ve progressed in growing as songwriters, and while they’re different in that respect, it’s still not unbelievable that it’s the same band. It still sounds like Alabama Shakes, just experimenting with other sounds.”
