Albert Hammond Jr. says auditioning for ‘Stranger Things 2’ made him a better performer

He received a callback from producers for the part

Albert Hammond Jr. has revealed he auditioned for Stranger Things 2 and the experience made him a better performer.

The Strokes guitarist recently released his fifth solo album, ‘Francis Trouble‘. In a four-star review, NME said: “Despite a situation some might consider sad or dark being the glue behind it, ‘Francis Trouble’ is a bright blast of radiant, prismatic indie rock. More surprisingly still, it’s Albert’s most fun record yet, hurtling along on his trademark zipping guitar lines.”

Speaking to The Fader, Hammond Jr. said: “I did a taped audition for Stranger Things 2 and I got a callback, and I had to do that same audition – two scenes – in front of them.”

Explaining the effect that had on him as a performer, he said: “When you first do something and you’re nervous, time happens very weirdly and you don’t really understand your movements – you can’t sense yourself. Things just happen.

“And then it starts to slow down and slow down the more you do it, and you can really begin to feel the energy in the room,” he continued. “It gave me a new way to look at it when I came back to doing music and I was freer. I became the person I always wanted to be on stage. The child I was when I fell in love with music – how it affected me – that’s how I am on stage now and that’s how I feel the acting interacted with the music.

Meanwhile, Hammond Jr. has also shared a new video for ‘Francis Trouble’ track ‘Far Away Truths’. “Sometimes making music videos takes months, sometimes weeks, I do it in days,” he said in a press release. “I was lucky to work with my wife, Justyna, directing and the legend Tobias Rylander creating visuals that echo the ‘Francis Trouble’ album art.” Watch the video above.

The musician will also head out on a UK tour in September. Tickets are available now and can be purchased here. Albert Hammond Jr. will play:
