Midweek chart update: Alt-J and Aphex Twin challenging for Number One spot

'This Is All Yours' and 'Syro' are currently in the top two positions

Alt-J are on course to reach Number One on the Official UK Albums Chart this week with their new record ‘This Is All Yours’ currently outselling Aphex Twin’s ‘Syro’.

The Mercury Prize winning band are currently Number One at today’s midweek stage (September 24), with their second album ahead of Aphex Twin’s first album since 2001. Leonard Cohen is new at Number Three with his new album ‘Popular Problems’. The final chart placings will be revealed on BBC Radio 1 on Sunday (September 28).

Elsewhere in the Official Albums Chart there are eight new entries including Joe Bonamassa and Professor Green both currently sitting in the Top Ten with their latest albums.

Other new entries are due from Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett (11), Erasure (12), Lenny Kravitz (22), Joanne Shaw Taylor (23), Yungen (26) and Goat (32). Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ climbs 90 places to re-enter the Top 40 at Number 14.

Elsewhere, the Number One spot on the Official Singles Chart could go to Jessie J and her ‘Bang Bang’ collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande. Should the song hold on to its midweek spot it would be Jessie J’s third Number One after ‘Price Tag’ and ‘Domino’.

The other new entries on this week’s Official Singles Chart at the midweek stage come from Shift K3Y (13), Hozier (29) and Redlight (36).
