Meanwhile, Alt-J recently unveiled a brand new song of their own, entitled ‘Warm Foothills’. The band have added the slow-paced number to their current live set, and played the track at Reading and Leeds Festivals last month.

At the end of last year, keyboard player Gus Unger-Hamilton told NME that the band were writing new material, but that they wouldn’t be heading into the studio to start work on the follow-up to their successful debut ‘An Awesome Wave’ until at least autumn of this year, after finishing up their 2013 touring and festival commitments.

Unger-Hamilton added that the band had named five tracks which “sounding exciting”. One of the new songs is titled ‘The Gospel of John Hurt’ and is “classic Alt-J” and, according to Unger-Hamilton, references the film ‘Alien’.

Alt-J are also composing the score for new film Leave To Remain, which stars actor Toby Jones. The plot focuses around a group of teenagers escaping difficult pasts in other countries who are learning to survive in the UK – and fighting for the right to stay.

The band were approached to do the project after the director Bruce Goodison wrote the script for the film while listening to their debut LP. “I was immediately charmed by the soulful nature of their music. It felt like the perfect accompaniment to the emotional journey of my characters,” he says.
