The dress that Amy Winehouse wore on the front cover of her ‘Back To Black’ album has been sold for £43,200 at an auction in London.
The BBC reports that the printed chiffon dress, which was made by fashion designer Disaya Sorakraikitikul, was purchased by the Chilean fashion museum Museo de la Moda at La Galleria yesterday (November 29) for more than twice the £20,000 it was expected to fetch.
Sorakraikitikul donated the proceeds of the sale to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, the charity set up by the late singer’s family in July to honour her memory.
Winehouse’s father Mitch Winehouse – who was present at the auction – said: “We are just over the moon and we owe a great debt to the designer, Disaya, who donated the proceeds from the sale.”
Yesterday, Mitch claimed that he and his family wouldn’t have given their permission for the singer’s posthumous LP ‘Amy Winehouse Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ to be released if they didn’t think it was comparable to her previous studio albums ‘Frank’ and ‘Back To Black’.
‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ will be released on December 5 and features 12 tracks, including three covers and a number of previously unreleased tracks.
