MIA has released a tribute song to late singer Amy Winehouse – scroll down and click below to hear it.
Posting the track on her Soundcloud page, the rapper – real name Maya Arulpragasam – said that the track, titled ’27’, was dedicated to “all my friends that died at 27”.
The comment appeared to reference the numerous musical stars who, like Winehouse, passed away at 27, a group which includes Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, The Doors‘ Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and former Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones.
In a later post on her Twitter page, Twitter.com/_m_i_a_ the ‘Paper Planes’ singer added that ’27’ was an “unfinished demo” which was recorded before her 2010 mixtape ‘Vickileekx’. “R.I.P A.M.Y.” she added.
Winehouse was found dead at her flat in Camden, London at around 4pm (BST) yesterday. It’s been reported she died of an ecstasy overdose, although police have said her death is currently “unexplained”, with toxicology test results expected tomorrow (25).
Winehouse‘s father Mitch has expressed his devastation at his daughter’s death, while tributes to the singer from the music world have flooded in from the likes of Mark Ronson, Lily Allen, Kelly Osbourne and Boy George.
NME.COM users have also been leaving their tributes on NME‘s Facebook page, Facebook.com/nmemagazine.
