Mitch Winehouse speaks out after she enters rehab
Mitch Winehouse spoke to Vanessa Feltz’s BBC London radio show after Amy Winehouse entered rehab, saying he was for committing her to mental health care, but that the singer did not qualify legally despite her current circumstances.
“What you have got to understand is that Amy is nowhere near being in a position to be sectioned,” he explained. “She really has to be a danger to herself. You might consider taking drugs is a danger to herself, but the authorities don’t.”
Winehouse’s father said the recent video of his daughter allegedly smoking crack was “horrible” and added: “Part of the problem is she doesn’t think she has a problem. She thinks she can do what she does recreationally and get on with the rest of her life.”
The singer has now entered rehab in a bid to prepare for her Grammy Award appearance next month, where she has six nominations. It was also rumoured that she might make a live return at the Brit Awards (February 20) performing with Mark Ronson, but this is now in doubt.
