Amy Winehouse’s family reveal plans for biopic of legendary singer’s life

"What we want is somebody to portray Amy in the way that she was."

Amy Winehouse‘s family have confirmed that they have penned a multi-million-pound deal to make a biopic of the tragic singer’s life.

According to The Sun, veteran producer Alison Owen will direct a big screen take of Winehouse’s rise to fame and her death in 2011 at the age of just 27.

The story will reportedly be written by Geoff Deane, who has previously penned acclaimed comedy movies such as Kinky Boots.

It comes after the Winehouse estate signed a deal with Monumental Pictures last week, ahead of filming starting next year.

But although the actress to play the iconic singer is yet to be announced, her father Mitch insists that it won’t be Lady Gaga.

“We have been approached many times”, he told The Sun.

“There’s no point really me making the film because I’m her dad. But to get the right people to do it, that’s very important, and we will.

“It wouldn’t be Lady Gaga. She doesn’t speak our kind of English.

“I wouldn’t mind betting it would be an unknown, young, English — London, Cockney — actress who looks a bit like Amy.”

The announcement comes days after it was announced that a hologram representation of the singer will head out on tour next year – immediately dividing fans.
