Andrew Bird has announced he will play five church shows in December.
The singer/songwriter who is currently on tour in support of his most recent album ‘Noble Beast’, will play the gigs in Minneapolis and Chicago.
“What I hope to do with these shows is adapt my music completely to the atmosphere of the space and the season,” Bird said in a press release. “I’m inspired to do this based on childhood memories of performing Handel‘s ‘Messiah’ in various churches on an annual basis.”
Bird, who will be playing entirely solo, will focus on instrumental violin pieces and will use ambient lighting instead of overhead lights and giant horns instead of regular PA systems.
“I want the audience to be both lifted and comforted as we head into another cold and dark winter,” He explained. “I feel the space should be sacred so the audience can experience my music in a different atmosphere.”
Andrew Bird will play the following church shows:
Minneapolis, MN, Saint Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral (December 10, 11)
Chicago, IL, Fourth Presbyterian Church (15, 16 ,17)
