Manchester United striker Andy Cole is to release his debut single, ‘Outstanding’ on September 6 through WEA.
The track, a cover of The Gap Band‘s 1983 original, is backed by three alternative versions across the formats.
There will be an album to follow later in the year. Cole joins the rarefied ranks of footballers who have attempted to turn pop star. The 90s have seen releases by Ian Wright and Paul Gascoigne – who can forget his rendition of Lindisfarne‘s ‘Fog On The Tyne’? – while in the 70s and 80s Hoddle & Waddle and Kevin Keegan all saw openings in the music biz and tried to nip in there, but most shots were way off their target or were ruled offside.
