Ex-Ride lead singer Mark Gardener returns after three year hiatus with the release of the debut EP by his new outfit Animal House through Boilerhouse/Arista on February 14, nme.com can reveal.
The eponymous EP is a limited edition sampler of their album, featuring tracks ‘Animal’, ‘Sodium Glow’ and ‘Essence’.
The band’s spokesperson told nme.com that the music owed more to the Beatles and The Beach Boys than it did to Mark’s former group.
He said: “It’s very pop, with three or four part harmonies. But don’t expect to hear anything that sounds like Ride.”
The band, which also features former Ride drummer Loz Colbert, former Supergrass producer and Mystics member Sam Williams, keyboard and guitar player Jason King and bassist Hari Teah, formed in winter 1997.
They have also completed their debut album, to be released through Boilerhouse/Arista early summer, preceded by a single. All material was recorded in their own studio Temple Sound in Oxford.
