Julian Casablancas crashes Arcade Fire performance wearing papier mâché head – watch

The Strokes frontman temporarily joins Canadian band on stage at Lollapalooza in Argentina

Julian Casablancas temporarily joined Arcade Fire on stage in Argentina last night (April 1), appearing at the start of the band’s set wearing one of their trademark papier mâché heads. See above for footage now.

Arcade Fire began their headline set at Lollapalooza in Argentina with each member of the band wearing one of the over-sized heads. Only as the band began playing ‘Rebellion (Lies)’ was it clear that something was the matter when lead singer Win Butler shouted, “What the fuck is this?” from the side of the stage.

The Strokes‘ frontman Casablancas then lifted off his head to reveal his true identity. “Get out of here,” Butler added. “Not cool.” Arcade Fire, fronted as normal by Butler, then began to play set opener ‘Normal Person’. Scroll to 1:29 on the video above to see Butler’s reaction.

Just last month Arcade Fire were the victims of theft when one of their papier mâché heads was stolen following a gig in America. The stage prop was taken during Reflektor Tour show in Bridgeport, Connecticut on March 18 and the band are currently appealing for its safe return.

Meanwhile, Casablancas is promoting his upcoming solo album on the Lollapalooza tour. The Strokes frontman has compared the sound of the album to artists such as Black Flag and French electronic artist Sébastien Tellier, saying: “There are 45 different things that I’d like to do. I do not like hearing the same genre for three songs in a row.”

Arcade Fire are set to bring their tour to the UK in June, where they’ll play three shows at London’s Earls Court on June 6 and 7. They have also been announced as Friday night’s headliner at Glastonbury, which takes place between June 25 and 29.
