Singer performs in Montreal with band over the weekend
Arcade Fire vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Régine Chassagne is pregnant with her first child with frontman Win Butler, it has been reported.
Chassagne performed live in Montreal with the band at a charity concert on Saturday (February 23) where the Montreal Gazette reported the appearance of a “very pregnant” Chassagne. Arcade Fire performed as part of Kanpé Kanaval, a fundraiser for Haiti thrown by Chassagne’s to raise funds for her Kanpé charity. Additionally, fellow Arcade Fire member Mariska Shaw is also pregnant and performed with the band at the gig.
The news of Chassagne’s pregnancy comes as Arcade Fire are working on their new album with James Murphy. The news was confirmed by Scott Rodger, the band’s manager, last year. He said: “They’re in with James Murphy on three or so songs, plus Markus Dravs who is a long-time collaborator. They write too many songs – that’s a good problem to have. There’s around 35 songs with Arcade Fire, two albums’-worth for sure.”
Back in October (2012), former LCD Soundsystem frontman Murphy denied that he was producing the band’s follow-up to 2010’s ‘The Suburbs’. He said at the time: “That’s not necessarily true. We don’t work like that. Because I work with friends, if I have time and they’re doing something and I’m on the East Coast, then we can do something. But also they don’t need a producer, in a way. They produce themselves.”
In December Arcade Fire played a secret gig in Montreal under the pseudonym of ‘Les Identiks’. All mobile phones and cameras were banned during the performance, but the Arcade Fire Tube fansite documented the evening, revealing that band tested out new songs that were “fun, dance-y and groovy”.
