Arcade Fire’s Will Butler launches Haiti blog

Multi-instrumentalist opens up about his time on the earthquake-ravaged island

Arcade Fire multi-instrumentalist Will Butler has posted a series of blogs online from the band’s recent trip to Haiti.

The frontman has been scribing his musings during his time in the country, which was devastated by an earthquake in January 2010, and the poor conditions he encountered.

Butler also draws reference to an impromptu acoustic show the band played outside a clinic in Camp Dadadou on the island’s capital city Port Au Prince, which saw him encounter a “biohazard medical wastebasket”. Butler said the band initially used it as a makeshift drum, before realising what it was.

The band also recently performed a gig at Hotel Oloffso, playing a 45-minute set that included four covers.

Arcade Fire have been raising money for Haiti throughout their 2010 and 2011 tours, with over $1million (£660,000) collected so far to help the country’s earthquake relief effort.
