Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, Strokes bass player Nikolai Fraiture and Arcade Fire’s Win and Will Butler performed as the Pop All Star Band at the third annual Pop Vs Jock game held in Montreal as part of this year’s Pop Montreal festival.

The performance took place at half time during the charity basketball game at the McGill Sports Complex. The midway entertainment also saw Kid Koala – wearing a koala costume – leading a parade of people in animal costumes, a kazoo competition between audience members and NBA player Luke Bonner performing a karaoke version of an Alanis Morrissette song. The supergroup then performed ‘In the Air Tonight’ and The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’.

Before the match, Butler’s wife and bandmate Regine Chassagne had played organ in the arena and Kid Koala and A-Trak played a DJ set including tracks by LL Cool J, Michael Jackson and Beastie Boys. Montreal’s Mozart’s Sister sang the national anthem.

The game itself saw the musicians team up with NBA players Brent Barry and Matt Bonner against the McGill and Concordia college basketball teams. Montreal Gazette reports that Team Pop won won the game by 101 points to 92. LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy DJed at the afterparty.

Pop Montreal concluded yesterday (September 21) and saw performances from artists including Twin Shadow, Panda Bear, Against Me! and Schoolboy Q.
