Arcade Fire drop surreal new video for ‘Chemistry’

The animated new video is directed by Ray Tintori

Arcade Fire have today released a new video for ‘Chemistry’ from their last album, ‘Everything Now’.

The animated video is directed by Ray Tintori, who has previously worked with the likes of MGMT, Chairlift and Moses Sumney.

Speaking about the video, Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler said the band had wanted to work with the highly-regarded director for years. “We’ve been big fans of Ray’s work since his early videos and there was talk of collaborating during The Suburbs shoot – we were going to film it in New Orleans but then it got moved to Austin at the last minute, and Ray was caught up working on Beasts Of The Southern Wild,” he said.

“So it was very full circle to finally be working with him in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. There is a playful, carnivalesque energy to the song; to capture that by filming literally during carnival felt right.”

The ‘Chemistry’ video story shows an animated dog and cat (played by Ms. Tootz) meeting at her wedding reception where the dog is a caterer.

The “chemistry” between the two is unmistakable (see what they did there?) and Ms. Tootz, who is supposed to be marrying a shark, runs off with the dog. They travel to space, destroy the International Space Station before landing back to earth in New Orleans. As first dates go, it’s pretty special.

Arcade Fire will resume their Everything Now Continued World Tour in Rotterdam this evening, before continuing with their world tour which concludes in Las Vegas in late September.
