Jason Derulo looks set to bump Katy Perry from singles chart top spot
The Sheffield band are currently ahead of their closest competitor – Avicii, with new album ‘True’ – by 10,500 copies in the race for this week’s top spot.
Arctic Monkeys narrowly missed out on the title of fastest-selling album of 2013 with their first week sales of ‘AM’ at 157,000 copies. It left them 8,000 short of the 165,000 copies sold by Daft Punk‘s ‘Random Access Memories’ in its first week. The Monkeys did, however, manage to set a new Official Charts record on Sunday by becoming the first independent act to score five Number One studio albums in a row.
Manic Street Preachers are on course for third spot with ‘Rewind The Film’, while Elton John’s latest effort, ‘The Diving Board’ – his 30th studio album – is expected to land at Number Four on Sunday. The ‘Rocket Man’ singer was named the inaugural winner of the new Brits Icon Award earlier this month.
Meanwhile in the UK Singles Chart, Jason Derulo is set to end Katy Perry‘s two-week stint at the top with his new single ‘Talk Dirty’ feat. 2 Chainz. Other new entries include Chvrches, whose ‘The Mother We Share’ looks likely to be their highest charting single to date at 37, and Jessie J, who is currently at Number Three with ‘It’s My Party’, from her upcoming second album, ‘Alive’, which is released on Monday (September 23).
