Alex Turner and his bandmates headlined Reading & Leeds plus T In The Park
NME readers have named Arctic Monkeys as their favourite headliner at this year’s festivals.
The band, who headlined Reading & Leeds as well as T In The Park, received 31 per cent of readers’ votes in the annual NME Festivals Survey. Behind the Sheffield band in the list of reader’s top headliners were Queens Of The Stone Age, with 11 per cent, and Kasabian, who received nine per cent of the vote.
Additionally, other bands who impressed across the festival circuit this summer were Metallica (six per cent) Arcade Fire and Paramore (five per cent) plus Biffy Clyro and Foals (four per cent).
Meanwhile, Royal Blood were voted as the breakthrough band of the summer – capping a heroic number of festival appearances in a summer that saw the band achieve a Number One album in September. The Brighton duo finished ahead of fellow new bands Catfish & The Bottlemen, Jungle, Fat White Family and Wolf Alice.
The full NME Festival survey 2014 can be read in this week’s issue of the magazine, which is available on newsstands from today (October 1) and available digitally.
