Alex Turner: ‘I feel bad that I haven’t written any new songs for a while’

Arctic Monkeys and The Last Shadow Puppets singer vows to hit the piano soon

Alex Turner has admitted that he isn’t happy at not having written any new songs “for a while”.

Last month (June 30), Turner said there was “no rush” to make a new Arctic Monkeys album, telling Radio X there were no plans for the follow-up to 2013’s ‘AM’.

Now, speaking to Beats 1, Turner said: “I feel bad for not writing for a while. I want to get back on the piano, get back up to writing a song a week.”

Reminded by host Matt Wilkinson that he’d said while touring ‘AM’ that he felt he could write “’AM’ part two”, Turner said: “I haven’t thought about that for a while. I don’t think I have that right now.”

Turner also spoke about how he came to write with Alexandra Savior, the singer from Oregon whose album he has co-written, including new single ‘Shades’.

Turner said: “I met her a couple of years ago in LA. We wrote quite a lot of songs together, most of which have ended up on her record.”

One of the songs the pair co-wrote, ‘Miracle Aligner’, is on The Last Shadow Puppets’ recent album ‘Everything You’ve Come To Expect’. Turner explained: “That’s one The Last Shadow Puppets did, as she didn’t want to. She let us have that one back.”

Miles Kane confirmed that The Last Shadow Puppets’ gig last week at London’s Alexandra Palace will be their last in the UK for ‘Everything You’ve Come To Expect’. Kane said: “We’re going to regroup in September. It makes you excited once you get back together.”
