Last night (September 22) saw Arctic Monkeys perform an intimate, phone-free theatre gig in Brooklyn, New York. During the special show, the group gave their recent comeback single ‘There’d Better Be A Mirrorball’ its live debut.

They also treated the crowd to a pair of as-yet-unreleased cuts from ‘The Car’ – ‘Body Paint’ and ‘Mr Schwartz’ – as well as ‘I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am’, another new song that was first played last month.

In a five-star review of the concert, NME wrote: “Through their discography, the Sheffield band have slowly embodied a sort of timelessness, not just in their homages to retro sounds, but in the way each era of their music, with its unmatched lyricism and refusal to rest on its laurels, somehow connects seamlessly to the next.”

During his first interview about ‘The Car’, Alex Turner told the Big Issue that Arctic Monkeys had come “back to earth” on the album following the divisive ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’. “On this record, sci-fi is off the table,” he said.
