Costello revealed his diagnosis last week, confirming that he had surgery back in May in an effort to combat the illness. He’s since been advised by his doctor to rest, which resulted in the cancellation of his remaining European tour dates.
Alex Turner paid tribute to Costello during the band’s show in Lyon, France last night as he introduced a cover of the London musician’s track ‘Lipstick Vogue’, which was released back in 1978 with his band The Attractions.
“I wanna play a cover for you now, Lyon,” Turner said to the audience. “It’s a cover of Elvis Costello and The Attractions, and we’d have [normally] dedicated this song to a friend of ours who is in the audience tonight – but tonight, it’s for the man himself.
“Get well soon.”
