Arctic Monkeys have unveiled new single ‘Anyways’. Listen to it in full below.
The track is a previously unreleased effort, taken straight from the B-side of their ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’ 7″, which arrives today.
It’s entirely in keeping with their latest record too, as Alex Turner’s distinctive croon is paired with the subdued lounge-pop sound that has largely defined it.
The new offering was first announced last month as the band unveiled Warp Speed Chic, a mini documentary directed by filmmaker Ben Chappell.
The film, which can be viewed in full below, documents the recording of ‘Tranquility Base…’ and also follows them as they debut the tracks for the first time.
Meanwhile, Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders recently confirmed that he’s working on a new solo album that takes inspiration from horror icon John Carpenter.
Speaking to KEXP, the musician said: “I’ve got a little studio set up at home now that, when I’m there, I can commit some time to,” he said. “That’s basically old drum machines and synthesisers – a bit more electronic and a bit more like soundtrack-y, like a John Carpenter kind of thing.”
He continued: “There isn’t really a goal for what it will be yet. I’m just trying to drop in the tools in case, whether it’s a score or a record or what. I’m just enjoying it as a hobby and, when that leads to something, I think that feels a bit better for me when it’s, like, just something I wanted to do and have interest in.”
