But which sixties survivor came out on top?

BRIAN WILSON and ARTHUR LEE went head to head as BENICASSIM’s final day (August 8) saw in the battle of the living legends.

Both artists have spent recent years touring their classic albums ‘Pet Sounds’, ‘Smile’, and ‘Forever Changes’.

And after three days of rock’n’roll fun in the sun, they both showed up to teach the new school a few tricks.

Playing on the main stage, Wilson rolled out a string of classics, drawing largely on ‘Pet Sounds’ songs that included opener ‘Sloop John B’, ‘God Only Knows’ and ‘Good Vibrations’.

Wilson’s onstage banter was typically eccentric, saying, “This is a new one, no – an old one, it’s called ‘In My Room’.

Lee, however, appeared troubled by the death this week of funk legend Rick James, paying tribute throughout the show, which drew heavily on ‘Forever Changes’.
