As I Lay Dying singer Tim Lambesis arrested over plot to kill wife

The metal group's frontman was allegedly planning to have his estranged wife murdered

The singer of Christian heavy metal group As I Lay Dying, Tim Lambesis, has been arrested on suspicion of plotting to kill his wife.

According to Billboard, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department issued a press release headlined ‘Murder for Hire Plot Foiled’ detailing the arrest, which took place on Tuesday (May 7) at 2pm in a shop in Oceanside, California. According to the release, police say they became aware that Lambesis had asked an undercover detective to kill his estranged wife Meggan, who is believed to have started legal proceedings for divorce last September. The 32-year-old singer was charged with Solicitation of Another to Commit Murder.

“The information came to us late last week,” San Diego County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Jan Caldwell said. “We acted quickly on it. I believe that we averted a great tragedy.”

As I Lay Dying had just returned from a short tour that included stops in the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan and South Korea and wrapped up in Shanghai, China. The band formed in San Diego in 2000. They have released six albums including their most commercially successful 2007 LP, ‘An Ocean Between Us’. Their track ‘Nothing Left’ was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award.
