Ash play ‘U’ gig for A-Z tour in Upper Norwood

Band cross off another lett on UK gig run

Ash played a claustrophobic gig to cross off the letter ‘U’ on their A-Z UK last night (November 16), headlining the Gypsy Hill Tavern in Upper Norwood.

The trio are playing gigs across the UK in locations in alphabetical order – having kicked the jaunt off in Aldershot on October 19 and being set to end it in Zennor on November 23.

Playing in front of a roaring fire, shabby mosaic tiles and an unsuspecting number of local drinkers hemmed into the venue, Ash kicked off the Upper Norwood gig with ‘Lose Control’.

Frontman Tim Wheeler teased the crowd by noting “how fabulous we look tonight, and what incredible shoes we’re wearing,” before playing ‘Shining Light’.

“This is the second Irish bar we’ve played in London this week,” Wheeler later announced, before being corrected. “OK, it’s not a very Irish pub, but it is owned by an Irish guy called Frank, so thank you – drinks on the house.”

Later they played a five-song encore before ending the show with ‘Burn Baby Burn’.

Ash played:

‘Lose Control’
‘A Life Less Ordinary’
‘Shining Light’
‘True Love 1980’
‘Joy Kicks Darkness’
‘Kung Fu’
‘You Can’t Have It All’
‘Oh Yeah’
‘Space Shot’
‘Jack Names The Planets’
‘Walking Barefoot’
‘Girl From Mars’
‘Return Of White Rabbit’
‘Angel Interceptor’
‘Twilight Of The Innocents’
‘Burn Baby Burn’
