The Liverpool crowds give the chart-toppers a great welcome...

ATOMIC KITTEN have celebrated their second week at Number One in the UK singles chart in their home town of LIVERPOOL, where they met over 300 faithful fans braving a torrential downpour to meet their heroines this afternoon (August 6).

The chart-topping trio, whose cover of The Bangles ‘Eternal Flame’ stayed at Number One yesterday (August 5) for a second week running, kicked off a five-day signing tour of England and Eire at Virgin Megastore in Clayton Square Shopping Centre in Liverpool.

The fans, who had spent several hours in the pouring rain before the girls’ arrival, screamed when Atomic Kitten arrived, and banged on the store windows so enthusiastically that security were on extra alert. The girls agreed to spend longer than originally scheduled to ensure they met all the fans who had braved the elements to get copies of their re-released album ‘Right Now’ and posters signed.

One fan who had queued up to get near the front, 13-year-old Kelly from Liverpool, said: “I wanted to see them because it would be boss to meet they, they are good singers, they’re dead pretty and they’re from Liverpool,” adding that the only other band she would queue to see would be Kittens‘ rivals Destiny’s Child.

Another fan, Britt, nine, said: “They’re dead pretty and they’re really good dancers, and their songs are great. ‘Eternal Flame’ is my favourite.” While most of the fans were young girls, there were a few boys who had queued up as well.

The trio’s signing tour continues tomorrow (August 7) at Our Price in Donegal Place, Belfast, starting at 12 noon, then goes on to Virgin Megastore in Aston Quay, Dublin the following day (August 8) at 1pm. Then on Wednesday (August 9) the band will be at HMV in London Oxford Street (12.30pm) and winds up at Virgin Megastore at the Odeon Development, Southampton (3pm) on the 10th.
