The girls' cover of The Bangles 'Eternal Flame' looks like being one of the biggest hits of the summer...
ATOMIC KITTEN‘s cover of ‘ETERNAL FLAME’ is on course to become not only this week’s best selling single in the UK, but also one of the biggest hits of the summer.
Based on sales figures calculated yesterday (July 23), their cover of The Bangles 1989 Number One, is currently at the top of the UK singles chart, and outselling the second highest new entry, Destiny’s Child‘s ‘Bootylicious’ at a rate of almost three copies to one.
A chart expert at HMV in London said the single is now “easily the favourite” to become this week’s chart topper, and could sell in the region of 250,000 before the end of the week.
Speaking previously to NME.COM about the single, group member Natasha Hamilton explained: “It’s a bit hard doing a cover version because a lot of people slate you, saying that you’ve destroyed a perfectly good song, but I can honestly say that our version is wicked – the arrangement is amazing and a lot of people will be shocked when they hear it, because it is a really good cover version.”
Elsewhere in the Top Ten, Robbie Williams‘ double A-side of ‘Eternity’/’The Road To Mandalay’ has been pushed down to Number Three, with O-Town‘s ‘All Or Nothing’ at Number Four. Cosmic Gate’s ‘Fireworks’ is currently at Number Nine, Catatonia‘s ‘Stone By Stone’ is at Number 15 and REM‘s new single, ‘All The Way To Reno (You’re Gonna Be A Star)’ is at Number 18.
