Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello was arrested last night (September 28) in Los Angeles.
The former Rage Against The Machine man was taking part in a march to raise awareness of immigrant hotel workers’ rights.
Morello refused to move from Century Boulevard the main entry road to Los Angeles International Airport.
Before the march, the guitarist said: “In these political dark ages, it’s important for us to stand up for one another. These hotel workers by the airport make 20 per cent less wages than hotel workers around the rest of Los Angeles.
“We’re here to express our solidarity with them, to help them unionize and to help them close the gap between their sub-poverty wages and the millions and millions of dollars the people who own these hotels make.”
The march involved 2000 protesters and MTV reports that the guitarist planned to be arrested, giving the Los Angeles Police Department their drivers’ licence numbers days before the event to speed the process along.
Prior to the march Morello performed a three-song set under the name Nightwatchman with special guest Ben Harper.
