Avenged Sevenfold part ways with drummer Arin Ilejay

Band blame split on 'creative differences'

Avenged Sevenfold have parted ways with drummer Arin Ilejay.

The sticksman who has been with the band since 2011, replaced the late James Sullivan.

Announcing his departure in a statement, the band wrote on their official website Avengedsevenfold.com: “We are writing this to inform you all that we will be moving forward without Arin Ilejay as our drummer. Arin has been nothing but a positive energy and monster drummer for us over the past four years. We love the guy and always will. We are and will always be grateful to him for helping us to move forward through some very dark times.

“Creatively though, we felt we needed to move in a different direction. While we can’t say more at this time, we are excited for the future and looking forward to sharing our plans soon with the greatest fans in the world. As always we appreciate your understanding and unwavering support.”

Ilejay joined the band in 2011. At the time the band said that the drummer was recommended to them by their longtime drum tech Mike Fasano.

“We recently asked several friends who knew Jimmy [Sullivan] and his style, and also knew our music and each of our personalities to suggest drummers to tour with us starting this year,” the band said. “Our longtime studio drum tech, Mike Fasano, recommended Arin Ilejay.”

Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, also filled in for the band until December 2010 after the death of the band’s founding drummer, Sullivan, in December 2009.

He, passed away at his home in southern California at the age of 28.

His death was caused by an accidental drug overdose.

Avenged Sevenfold headlined last year’s Download Festival.
