Avril Lavigne says she is ‘on the way to good health’ following Lyme disease diagnosis

Singer confirmed news of ill-health in April

Avril Lavigne has issued an update on her health after being diagnosed with Lyme disease in April.

Last year, the singer had revealed she was suffering from an undisclosed health problem, later confirming that she had contracted the chronic illness after being bitten by a tick.

Speaking to People at the time, Lavigne said, “I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed,” Lavigne said. “My friends asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ I didn’t know. I had no idea a bug bite could do this… I was bedridden for five months.”

She added, “I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t move. I thought I was dying. There were definitely times I couldn’t shower for a full week because I could barely stand. It felt like having all your life sucked out of you.”

Now, the singer has uploaded a series of photos taken at a health clinic to Instagram. Captions to the pictures read, “On my way to good health #TakingCareOfMyself #FuckLymeDisease” and “This journey continues… Just reach up, don’t give up until you’ve touch the sky… We were all meant to fly”.

Amanda Palmer was forced to pull out of a series of live dates supporting Morrissey in the US during July due to Lyme disease.

Confirming the news, Palmer also joked that she should start a supergroup with both Lavigne and Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna, who also suffers from the illness.
