Lavigne announced the split via her Instagram, noting the pair are still "the best of friends"
The singer posted a picture from the pair’s wedding day to her Instagram today (September 2) along with a message confirming the split:
“It is with a heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today,” she wrote. “Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we’ve created many unforgettable moments. We are still and forever will be the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support.”
The pair married in July 2013, and the same year released a track entitled ‘Let It Go’ to reflect the growth of their relationship.
In November of last year, Lavigne and Kroeger had to deny rumours that their marriage had ended, after Kroeger was pictured without his wedding ring. The marriage was Lavigne’s second, with the singer having previously been married to Sum 41 singer Derek Whibley.
Kroeger recently cancelled Nickelback’s world tour including a number of UK dates in order to recover from vocal cord surgery. The tour is yet to be rescheduled.
